Completed in 1914, this five-story loft building served the retail and warehousing needs for the John Deere Plow Company for decades. The building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was preserved and converted into 49 loft apartments. As one rides the elevator from floor to floor, artwork from Steve Penley, the "Andy Warhol of the South," is visible through the glass walls of the elevator. Deere Lofts contains studio, one- and two-bedroom units, as well as some two-story units. Nike housed its VIP guests here for the 1996 Olympics. Deere Lofts, the largest beam and post building in downtown Atlanta, was completed in 1996. |
